Acushnet Holdings (NYSE: GOLF) is a golf equipment retailer. It carries several leading brands including Titleist, FootJoy, Pinnacle, Vokey and Scotty Cameron. The company was founded in 1910 and headquartered in Fairhaven, MA.

Acushnet is one of the leading manufacturers of golf products in the United States. it was founded in 1990 in Massachusetts and has now grown to include a full range of golf products from balls, clubs, footwear and accessories. It is most wlel known for the Titleist ball, which is the leading ball for golf professionals. In 2011, Fortune Brands sold the company to private equity firms as part of a decision to refocus on alcoholic products.

Its Footjoy brand is the leader in shoes and glove. It is recognized as the No. 1 shoe on the PGA tour and the No. 1 glove in golf[2].

Golf Clubs (26% of 2017 Revenues):
Its Titleist brand is strong in irons and woods. It also sells wedges under Vokey and putters under Scotty Cameron brands. Acushnet has over 4,000 fitting partners to allow for golfs to have custom fitting with their clubs.

Golf Gear (9% of 2017 Revenues):
It offers a range of Titleist-branded gear including bags, hats, travel gear, headwear and umbrellas.

Manufacturing & Distribution

As of 2017, Acushnet has 3 golf ball manufacturing plants, two in Massachusetts and one in Thailand. Acushnet assembles golf clubs at six global locations. Acushnet has one golf glove manufacturing plant in Thailand. Acushnet has one golf shoe JV manufacturing plaint in Fuzhou, China.

Acushnet has over 1,250 active patents in golf balls, 350 active patents in golf clubs and 300 active patents in golf shoes and gloves[3].


Acushnet has sales field representatives around the world and service 30,000 direct accounts worldwide. Most of the sales are to golf shops, distribution, and big box retailers.

Acushnet operates a two-year product release schedule for their products which aligns with a professional golfer's replacement cycle.


Its main competitor is Callaway Golf and TaylorMade (Adidas).


The company was founded in 1910 by Phil Young. The names derives from the town Acushnet, Massachusetts.

In 1923, the FootJoy brand was created and sold to General Mills in 1975. It was acquired back in 1985.

In 1935, the company founded the Titleist brand.

In 1976, the company was acquired by American Brands (Fortune Brands).

In 1994, Scotty Cameron joined Acushnet. In 1998, Vokey wedges were launched.

In 2011, Fila Korea and Mirae Asset Private Equity acquired Acushnet Company from Fortune Brands.
