FND was founded in 2000 and opened its first store in Atlanta, GA. In 2003, the company was acquired by private equity and went public in 2016. The company was founded in 2000 with the first store in Atlanta, GA. The founder Vincent West had a background in the glassware and building materials businesses. In 2003, the company was acquired by private equity firms Najeti Ventures and Saugatuck Capital. By 2008, the company had 23 stores.

In 2010, the company was acquired by private equity firms Ares Management and Freeman Spogli. In 2012, the company hired a new CEO Thomas Taylor. In 2013, the company began focusing on the Pro installer strategy and expanded in-store SKUs.

In 2016, the company went public.
