RH was founded 1980 by Stephen Gordon >it opened its first store in Eureka, CA. In 2008, the company was acquired by private equity firms Catterton Partners and Tower Three Partners. It went public in 2012. RH sells luxury furniture through its online catalog and retail stores known as Galleries. In 2016, RH introduced a membership program.

History

It was founded in 1980 by Stephen Gordon with the first location was in Eureka, CA. In 1988, it opened the second location in Corte Madera, CA and introduced furniture. In 1998, the company went public.

In 2001, the company faced financial struggles and raised equity from Capital Group, Fidelity and Baron Asset Management. In 2008, the company was acquired by private equity firms Catterton Partners and Tower Three Partners.

In 2012, the company went public again.
